Liquor store shop staff will soon be able to dispense draught beer into plastic bottles.
The bottling device – PEGAS – has been developed by the Novosibirskprodmash company and is being launched internationally. It dispenses beer into plastic bottles of any size without creating unwanted froth.
Draught beer dispensing into plastic bottles using the system is popular in Russia, accounting for 45% of packaged beer sales.
The PEGAS people say that overseas retailers are already showing strong interest in the system.
“In many countries there exists a traditional culture of drinking draught beer in bars, pubs and restaurants. Apart from these places, people in these countries can buy only pre-packaged beer,” they said.
“The reason for that is very simple. It is very problematic to sell draught beer because dispensing of keg beer results in excessive foam formation. Excessive foaming means extra time for customers, extra energy for staff, significant beer wastage, and also degrading of beverage quality. All this makes selling of draught beer unprofitable. That’s why selling draught beer in retail outlets is almost not spread anywhere in the world.”
PEGAS is a small device which connects to a chiller or beer line. Its makers say it poured beer three to four times faster than a standard beer tap, with minimum wastage.
