Thistle Hill Vineyard has been named the best organic wine at the NSW Wine Awards in Sydney.

The winery was also awarded a bronze medal for its 2009 Chardonnay and its Erudgere 2009 Shiraz Cabernet.

Thistle Hill, from Mudgee in NSW, has been producing organic wines since its foundation in 1976.

More than 800 entries were received for the 2009 wine awards. The organic wine division was open for the first time.
