Coles’ chief information officer Peter Mahler (pictured) has resigned his post and will be replaced by former Coles head of technology architecture Conrad Harvey, reports The Australian online.
Wesfarmers plans a new technology strategy for the Coles supermarket chain – moving away from the centralised system introduced by former Coles boss John Fletcher.
Wesfarmers MD Richard Goyder told ABC TV’s Inside Business program there had been structural problems in the way Coles’ IT system was set up.
“The fact that the supply chain reported separately to the CEO and supermarkets didn’t control supply chain and IT and human resources just meant you didn’t have proper co-ordination across the businesses so we think structurally it was flawed.
“We think what we are doing, in terms of setting up independent operating units is going to let people get on with what they do best, which is run their businesses.”
