"Jury" raps Coca-Cola over ad campaign
"Jury" raps Coca-Cola over ad campaign

A “trial by jury” panel set up by The Parents Jury has returned a guilty verdict against Coca-Cola’s marketing campaign that promotes Coca-Cola as a suitable accompaniment to the family dinner.

The trial by jury panel said the campaign is seriously undermining the healthy eating messages parents are trying hard to give to their children. The Parents Jury is a web-based forum of 3000 Australian parents who say they are alarmed by the effects of soft drink marketing on childhood obesity levels.

The Coca-Cola ad it cites promotes Coca-Cola as a drink to have with the family meal, saying “Meals come alive on the Coca-Cola side of life”. The TV ad shows a family sitting down for a meal together with a bottle of Coke as the main drink. (You can view the ad at http://www.coca-cola.com.au/meals/)

Justine Hodge of The Parents Jury says the key message the ad is giving to families contradicts the health messages being given by health officials and governments across the world.

“The over-consumption of soft drinks has been clearly associated with rising levels of childhood overweight and obesity. Children should be encouraged to drink water with their meals, not energy dense sugary soft drinks that only add unnecessary kilojoules and are also highly detrimental to dental health.”

“The Parents Jury urges Coca-Cola Amatil and other soft drink companies to stop this type of unhealthy marketing targeting children and families.

Coca-Cola is not responsible for children's unhealthy habits. The responsibility should reside with the parents teaching their children good eating habits and exercise.

Coca Cola Amatil are masters of disguise, they bombard the Australian landscape in the form of strategic marketing sponsorships, advertising and marketing plaster.

It is not cool to have a coke, it is derived from a the coca drug plant ( yes the cocaine has been taken out) at the expense of competitors doing the same!

Since most Australians are religious, ask your leader at your church if it is ok to consume a
coca infused drink?

Children of today have a different lifestyle, the physical activity has slowed down to levels that make it impossible to burn through the calories
of the modern diet.

So if parents fail in keeping children slim, will the government step in to help them or will they prosecute parents for child abuse.

Everyone keeps on forgetting how these same parents are also victims of coca cola brainwashing, they too grew up with visual pollution that coca cola is famous for.

So we need more community forums like this, it will help combat the Coca Cola Amatil marketing war machine.

Coca Cola Amatil knows how much exercise is needed to burn through their products.

So imagine knowing how many kilometres you have to run to burn off that 600ml coke!

Why do you omit this information from your propaganda websites ie

www.makeeverydropmatter.com.au
www.beverageinstitute.org www.activefactor.com.au

Lets see the Coca Cola marketing war machine deal with the same regulations as the tabacoo
companies, since they shift onus of responsibilty back to the individual.

Coke side of life is one sided....

Soft drink is a perfectly acceptable accompaniment to a meal, as long as you eat right and drink enough water and EXERCISE!

Kids obesity is caused by 3 things, lack of exercise, DEPRESSION (eating cause of depression and trust me i know i was a size 22 at 12) and eating out of boredom.
None of which is caused by soft drinks, its kids coming home from school to chocolate and chips instead of carrot sticks and an apple or something like that.

And might i say if you have a problem with coke and your children consuming it... DONT BUY IT

And i also forgot to mention.

With a meal is logically the best and least harmful time to consume a softdrink, slo if your child has one can of softdrink with dinner then brushes their teeth for bed no dental harm and it is digested with the meal.

So the made for meals really is suggesting a healthier way to consume the beverage
