BH Fine Foods has released Lotus Peak Yerba Mate to the Australian market, a herbal beverage it claims is the most popular hot beverage in South America.

Yerba Mate is consumed in 92 per cent of Argentinean households and is recognised for its multitude of health benefits, including being a source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

GM of BH Fine Foods, Barak Begleiter, said Lotus Peak Yerba Mate tea was unique in that it is both a nutritious beverage and a natural energy drink.

"Yerba mate provides an energy boost, and assists concentration and mental alertness. As Australians continue to embrace the healthy lifestyle trend, we feel there’s a need for Lotus Peak Yerba Mate within the natural beverage market,” Begleiter said.

Lotus Peak Yerba Mate is available at selected Woolworths and Safeway stores.

why would we but this when we can buy yerba mate originally from argentina. Lotus Peak is re-packed yerba coming from who knows where!

I love the way that Barak Begleiter insinuates that Lotus Peak are pioneering Yerba Mate in Australia when it has been available in Australia itself for 30 years plus. I have been buying my Yerba Mate imported from Argentina from Casa Iberica for the last 15 years. What I drink today is what I drank 20 years ago back in Argentina!

I have purchased this product. It is the authentic Yerba Mate and according to the pack is product of Argentina.

Do they grow Yerba Mate anywhere else?

I really got into Mate when I visited Argentina. It is much more than an energy drink, it's an institution! Some great things in the world just don't filter down to us. It's about time it reached our supermarket shelves. Now everyone can enjoy it: I will think of Argentina each time I take a sip.
