Woolworths has expanded its online supermarket to Western Australia, with Perth residents the first to experience the service.
Customers living in Perth are able to log onto Woolworths.com.au, search the supermarket aisles and place their order with deliveries beginning for the first time on Tuesday 23 March. Woolworths drivers will deliver groceries to the customer's kitchen bench.
The retailer is promising a reliable, simple to use service but also cheaper delivery prices than other full sized online grocery retailers. Brad Bolin, Western Australia Regional Manager for Woolworths.com.au said that Woolworths.com.au had on average 3,000 specials online each week, identically priced to those in store, as well as cheaper delivery charges than any other full sized online supermarket.
Standard prices online have are slightly higher than store prices, however, to take into account the personal service of staff picking and packing shopping for customers. Online orders will be sent to Woolworths stores in the region for dedicated staff to pick, pack and deliver.
Experience on the East Coast showed that online grocery shopping served a useful role for many people, Bolin said.
Woolworths already provides online shopping in major towns and cities in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania.
